We now invite you to join us in the seventh tour of our new series of ‘Discoveries Winemaker Tour 2010’, a joint programme by m.a.x. concepts, wine merchant Cottage Vineyards (International) and local wine instructor, Damon Yuen, where the visiting winemaker and Damon, will lead you to discover each month some of the world’s most exciting and unusual wines paired to a range of exquisite cuisine in various m.a.x. concepts outlets.
Our seventh tour, entitled, “Discovering Gruner Veltliner, Blauer Zweigelt, St. Laurent and other best-kept secrets in Austrian Wine” 29-30th November, 2010, will star the wines of two top Austrian boutique wineries, biodynamic white wine specialist Nikolaihof in Wachau and premium Austrian red wine producer, Pfaffl in Weinviertel.
Austria is the home of Gruner Veltliner, one of the wine world’s most food-friendly and versatile wines, enjoyable bone dry, off-dry, sweet, young, and with age. However, beyond this more better known, but still little known white grape, Austria produces also its own unique Rieslings arising from its steep, rocky, mineral terroirs able to hold their own against the tops Crus from Alsace and Germany, and a range of exciting red wines with their local grapes, namely Blauer Zweigelt, Blaufrankish, and St. Laurent, that lend well to dishes ranging from tasty game birds to even seafood and all the delicacies and flavourings of Asian cuisine.
Leading this tour will be Christine Saahs, winemaker/owner of Nikolaihof, the oldest wine estate in Austria, whose history goes back almost 2000 years to Roman times. Nikolaihof is also the first biodynamic wine estate in Europe to be given the Demeter certification. The winery also holds high recognition for the quality of its wines. Last year, 6 of Nikolaihof’s wines scored between 91 points to 97 points in Robert Parker’s “The Wine Advocate”.
And thus, with this tour, we will unravel the secrets of Gruner Veltliner, and other Austrian wine specialties with two special events showcasing some of Austrian’s top wines: (1) an exquisite Japanese cuisine wine dinner and (2) a traditional Austrian cuisine wine dinner.

奧地利是Gruner Veltliner的家鄉, 而做出的葡萄酒是葡萄酒世界中其中一跟食物最為協調的佳釀, 並且千變萬化-可以是乾身,半乾身,甜酒, 新酒或陳年. 然而,除了這廣為人知的出品外,從當地的陡坡、岩石、礦物質豐富的土地所種出的白葡萄,釀製出奧地利獨有的Rieslings,可媲美阿爾薩斯和德國 ,此外,當地葡萄釀製的Blauer Zweigelt,Blaufrankish和St. Laurent紅酒,十分適合配搭家禽類、肉類、海鮮及各種亞洲佳餚。
