Thank you for your support in our inaugural Royal Tuscany Reunion with the wines of Brunello di Montalcino producer Castello Romitorio.  Our tour was phenomenally successful, with both events long sold out, thanks to your support!  We apologize that unfortunately, due to the Filippo’s tight schedule, we could not fit in one more winemaker dinner event.


Even our second tour, we have almost sold out all our tickets even before this E-mail invitation, and thus we have secured the opening of ONE MORE NIGHT in this second Discoveries Winemaker Tour, adding to the programme the 28th of April, 2010.


Thus, we now invite you to join us in the second tour (26-28 April, 2010) in our new series of ‘Discoveries Winemaker Tour 2010’, a joint programme by m.a.x. concepts, wine merchant Cottage Vineyards (International) and local wine instructor, Damon Yuen, where each month, a visiting winemaker and Damon, will lead you to discover some of the world’s most exciting and unusual wines paired to a range of exquisite cuisine in various m.a.x. concepts outlets.


This second tour, entitled, ‘Uncovering the Potentials of the Douro’ will star the wines of Douro champion, Niepoort, whose 5th generation owner and winemaker, Mr.  Dirk Niepoort, has played a key role in developing the increasing reputation of the Douro as a premium dry white and red wine producer.


The Douro is boasts some of the most extreme winegrowing conditions in the world.  With 40,000 hectares of vineyards lining both sides of the majestic Rouro river, more than half rest on slate and stony granite slopes with inclines of more than 30%.


All these “terroir” conditions allow the production of not only the world’s finest ports but also some of the world’s most beautiful cool-climate white and red wines.


In the hands of Dirk Niepoort, the Douro wines of Niepoort express themselves in high altitude field blends, where different varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Ouriga Franca Tinto Cão, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Sousã, Tinta Roriz and other grape varieties are planted together in the same vineyard.


Although forward-thinking, Niepoort, under Dirk’s direction practices organic viticulture and maintains the tradition of using human feet to tread 60% of the grapes.


We invite you to taste the potential of Douro Wines and Douro port through our two events over THREE nights, all led by Mr.  Dirk Niepoort himself, 5th generation winemaker and owner of Niepoort: 


1.     Championing Douro Port and Douro Wine with Thai-Viet Cuisine’ Winemaker Dinner (Monday 26th April, 2010 at LIAN, IFC):  $558.00/$475.00 NET per person:  A 6-wine, 6-course winemaker dinner demonstrating the versatility of Douro ports and Douro wines with pairing features such as the Niepoort Douro D.O.C. ‘Tiara’ (Branco) 2008 paired to rice paper rolls and mixed satay sticks paried to the Niepoort 10 Years Old Tawny Port.


2.     Vintage Port and Douro Wine, Portuguese-inspired Cuisine’ Luxury Winemaker Dinner (Tuesday 27th April, 2010 at Café Landmark **ALL FULL**)


3.     (One more night: Wednesday 28th April 2010 at Café Landmark):  $698.00 / $594.00 NET per person:  A 7-wine, 7-course winemaker dinner featuring dishes including traditional Portuguese duck rice paried with the Niepoort Douro D.O.C. ‘Vertente Tinto’ 2005.
