Discoveries Winemaker Tour 10 ~ the French Southwest wines in Nov 2009

Dear Wine and Food Lover,

Thank you for your support in our last tour, Tour 9 of the Discoveries Winemaker Tour featuring the Mediterranean wines of Vins Made in Terranee.

We now invite you to join us in the 10th tour of our series of ‘Discoveries Winemaker Tour’, a joint programme by m.a.x. concepts, wine merchant Cottage Vineyards (International) and local wine instructor, Damon Yuen, where each month, a visiting winemaker and Damon, will lead you to discover some of the world’s most exciting and unusual wines paired to a range of exquisite cuisine in various m.a.x. concepts outlets.

Our tenth tour, entitled, “The Timeless Charm of the French Southwest”, 16-17 November, 2009, will star the French Southwest wines of and Authentique Sud-Ouest, a group of six family-owned wineries representing the primary AOC regions across the French southwest, a wine-producing area situated respectively inland from, and south of, the Bordeaux wine region.

Five wineries from this group will be featured in this tour:

1.      Domaine de Gineste:  AOC Gaillac

2.      Chateau La Renaudie:  AOC Bergerac and Pecharmant

3.      Clos Cavenac:  AOC Cotes de Marmandais

4.      Chateau Cantelauze:  AOC Cahors and Vins du Lot

5.      Chateau La Petite Bertrande :  AOC Cotes de Duras

Two wines from one additional winery from Gaillac, Chateau d’Arlus will also make their appearance in our events.

Leading the tour will be Mr.  Olivier Allagmagny, winemaker and co-owner of Chateau La Renaudie.

And thus we enter the French Southwest, a region with a diverse and exotic culture.  With its rustic charm, authentic and rich of prehistoric sites, medieval castles, well-preserved bastides (ancient fortified towns),  this corner of France seems really from another world, frozen, somewhere in time.  This feeling is almost true as this corner of France was independent for many centuries before being absorbed into the rest of the country, and that fierce sense of autonomy holds strong to this day.

Left to develop on its own, the place has preserved some of France’s most authentic and hearty cuisines and wines.  Indeed, this is the home of foie gras, magret de canard, black truffle, potatoes, charcuterie, Roquefort, and the piment d’Espelette chili pepper, as well as the powerful and rich wines of Cahors, Pecharmant, and Monbazillac and the famous Armagnac liquor.

To match a region and wines with such a strong personality, we have thus designed two wine dinners, equally strong in theme:

A Fantasy Thai-Viet Cuisine Winemaker Dinner entitled, “Authentic French Southwest Wine, Fusion Viet-Thai Cuisine”

  1. An Authentic French Southwest Cuisine ‘60s Dress’ Winemaker Dinner entitled, “In the Mood for French Southwest Cuisine, French Southwest Wines” which will take place in the newly-renovated retro-styled Hong Kong Maxim’s Cafe restaurant

Experience the taste of Mediterranean terroir in this tour’s series of two events (after 15% off for Cottage Vineyards Email List members) (Menus below and attached):
